IFC link

Import an IFC Model As an Object Model

You can import an IFC model into Vertex as an object model. In addition to geometry, the walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, windows, doors and profiles of the building are also imported as Vertex BD objects. This requires the IFC link add-on feature.

  1. Open a project or create a new project.

    Opening a Project

  2. Check the parameters IFC_DOOR and IFC_WINDOW in the project's basic parameter set (DEFAULT). The parameters define the default types to which the windows and doors of the IFC model are converted. The parameters are of the format "LIBRARY/CODE", for example:

    IFC_DOOR "DOOR_STANDARD/UO1-1000x2100"
    IFC_WINDOW "WIN_STANDARD/A-1190x1190"

    Editing Project Parameters

If default window and door types have not been defined in the project parameters, the geometry of windows and doors is imported as it is from the IFC model. You can change the windows and doors by editing their properties.

  3. Select File > Converters > IFC Import.
  4. Select the file in the Windows Open dialog box.
  5. If Settings > Constraints and Automatic Sketching > Automatic Floors has been enabled, and you have not yet selected the default material for automatic floors, select the floor in a dialog box.

The program positions the objects to the correct drawing-model pairs, if possible.

Walls are imported as single-layered structures. You can change them to library walls, see Change IFC Wall to Normal Wall. You can change the windows, doors, floors, ceilings, roofs and profiles by editing their properties.
