Copying Geometry to a New Window
With this function, you can copy the geometry of selected
elements to a new window. You can use this function for converting
a part of a model to a 3ds model, for example.
- Select General Object Functions >
Grab Geometry to a New Window.
- Select one or more elements in the drawing or the model
window.
- Select Confirm.
- Select a reference point that is located at the origin of the
new drawing/model window.
The program opens a new drawing/model window,
and copies the geometry of the selected elements into the
window.
- Save the drawing or the model by selecting File >
Save.
Note
- With this copying function, you can only copy the geometry of a
building component to a new window. For example, you can copy the
shape of a profile as it is. The copied geometry is formed of
points, lines, texts, hatches and volumes, which you can no longer
edit it with the functions connected to the original object.
- When the elements are copied with the context-sensitive menu
functions Copy or Advanced > Copy to New Window,
the program copies both the geometry and object data of the
element. For example, the shape of a profile depends on the
profile’s joints to other building components. When you copy a
profile, the connections are only copied, if all the connecting
components are also selected to be copied, or you position the copy
so that the connection to other building components is possible.
Otherwise the connections are lost. As a result, the profile end
returns to a rectangular shape.
- The model created with this function cannot be edited with the
3D modeling functions.
