The shading properties of a material are used as a basis for surface materials. Each material has five shading properties with different value options available. Only the Color shading property always requires a value. Other properties may also be set to None, meaning the shading property is not used.
Different combinations of shading properties allow the realization of a variety of most different materials. Using materials, you can add properties to models that cannot be modeled.

You can create a new material either by copying an existing material and editing its shading properties, or defining a new material and shading properties for it. The new materials are created in the Shared directory in the browser. In the basic software delivery, there is a designated subfolder for materials in the Shared folder.
