Converting an Old Project
Beginning with version 14, Vertex BD uses file extensions in the
names of drawing and model files. The extension of a drawing file
is .vxp and a model file
.vxm. The file names with
extensions allow opening the file in, for example, Vertex Viewer by
double-clicking the file name. This requires associating the file
extension with Vertex Viewer.
Old projects cannot be opened with version 14 or newer without
first converting the project's drawing and model files to the
format with a file extension. The program will add the file
extensions when you open the old project for the first time. Before
you open the project, it is recommended to make a backup copy of
the project folder.
- Select File > Open Project.
- Select an old project in the Open Project dialog box.
- Confirm by clicking OK. You will receive the prompt: "This
project has been made with an earlier version and needs to be
converted. It is recommended that you back up projects before
conversion. Would you like to convert and open this project?"
- Select either of the following:
- Yes - The program will convert the project files to the
format with file extensions. The file conversion will cause a
slight delay when the project is opened for the first time.
- No - The project files are not converted, and you cannot
open the project with version 14 or newer.
- When converting a project, you can also choose to update new
wall parameters to the project. This is significant to users who
are using the parametric walls included in the basic software
delivery. The parameters of these walls have been reformed in the
version 14.0. If you choose not to update the wall parameters, the
program will give you an error message, when you try to add walls
to a project created with a previous software version. You can also
update the project parameters after converting the project by using
the function System Settings > General System Setup >
Update Project Parameters.
If you are using a customized wall library, it is not necessary
to update the wall parameters.
- Select File > Save.
Note
- Before converting a project, make sure that the project does
not include files with the Read-only attribute. The conversion
program cannot edit the contents of files with the Read-only
attribute, which may cause the file conversion to fail. If
necessary, remove the Read-only attribute by editing the file
properties.
- After the conversion, the project can no longer be opened with
an older software version.
- With version 14 or newer, projects can no longer be saved in
the old format.
- System Settings is available on the toolbar only if you
are a system administrator.
