Creating a Geometry Group Out of Basic Elements

Basic geometry elements (line, point, surface and the basic objects; polyhedron, cylinder, cone and pipe) added to the model of a drawing-model pair do not have geometry in the drawing of the drawing-model pair. A geometry group can, however, be created from these basic elements, in which case a geometry that is also visible in the drawing is created for the elements. The 2D and 3D geometry of a group are connected to each other: when the geometry group is, for example, moved in the drawing, the change is updated in the model, and vice versa. The geometry of a group in a drawing is a top projection of the elements.

The geometry group can also be created in a drawing from basic geometry elements. A geometry group will then be created of the lines, texts etc. added to the drawing, and it can be moved, copied, etc.

  1. Select one or more basic geometry elements.
  2. Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu.
  3. Select Advanced > Create Group.
  4. If you selected basic volumes from the model, accept the creation of 2D geometry by selecting Yes in the message window.
